Our first Cradle twins

Filed under: — The Editor @ 8:53 pm

Our first Cradle twins, Joni and Carly were born on Tuesday 14th June at 9pm. Joni weighed 4lb12oz and Carly 4lb8oz. Although a little early both are home and doing very well. Both Mum and Dad are doing great and we send them huge congratulations from everyone at Cradle.

History
It really doesn’t seem like nearly 2 years ago that Gillian first contacted me to tell us her story about endometriosis and PCOS. I immediately related with her as we were both of a similar age and had the same conditions. Having attended our monthly meetings and becoming involved in the management of Cradle, Gillian and Gary started IVF treatment approximately 10 months after making first contact with us. They went on to have a good first cycle of IVF at Glasgow Royal Infirmary and know just how fortunate they were to have treatment work first time. After a bumpy start to the pregnancy things settled down well and Gillian progressed through her pregnancy with no real problems. At 35 weeks Gillian developed a syndrome know as HELP and the decision was taken to deliver the girls for both mother and babies safety. They are all doing fantastic.
The Success of IVF for Gillian and Gary
There is presently an abundance of research which suggests that couples who are relaxed and well informed about fertility treatment are much more likely to have a positive pregnancy and live birth.
Gillian through attending Cradle meetings and doing lots of research became very well informed about fertility treatment. She also took the additional steps of becoming aware of alternative therapies and attended the Glasgow Homeopathic hospital prior to starting treatment and also used reflexology. My main memory of Gillian and Gary throughout their first cycle of IVF, was that they remained very relaxed and positive. They didn’t know if it would work first time but they were confident it would work eventually. I think this is a key step in how you deal with negative results also. After a negative result, couples can often become very anxious and this can very difficult to control. Often the best way to help this situation is to take a long break from treatment, as much as 6 months. Progressing through treatment when depression is setting in can be very detrimental to the outcome.

Gillian and Gary are still on cloud nine with their little bundles of joy. They wish everyone still trying to conceive the very best of luck and thank everyone for their support.
