Sperm tests ‘not to WHO standard’

Sperm testing in UK labs fails to meet World Health Organization standards, raising concerns over infertility misdiagnoses, a study suggests. The paper, published online by Human Reproduction, surveyed 37 labs.

The Bristol and Sheffield-based researchers found only 5% of the clinics met all WHO standards for assessing the size and shape of sperm. They warn this means clinics could be “over-diagnosing” certain problems resulting in unnecessary treatments.

Our first Cradle twins

Our first Cradle twins, Joni and Carly were born on Tuesday 14th June at 9pm. Joni weighed 4lb12oz and Carly 4lb8oz. Although a little early both are home and doing very well. Both Mum and Dad are doing great and we send them huge congratulations from everyone at Cradle.

Fertility treatment equality call

Ministers have begun seeking views over inequalities in access to fertility treatment across Scotland.

Average waiting times range from two months in Shetland to five years in Grampian, and the same guidelines do not apply in all health board areas.

PCOS Support Group Meetings

A support group for those suffering from polycystic ovarian syndrome meets at Glasgow Royal Infirmary. The meetings are hosted by Isobel O’Neill and are held on Thursday evenings in the boardroom of the old hospital building at 7pm on specific dates.

The meetings are well attended and newcomers are welcome to just arrive on the evening. For information on PCOS and the next meeting date, please contact Isobel O’Neill.
