Getting Your Partner to Help With Injections

Getting your partner to administer the injections can really make them feel involved and a useful part of the whole process. It’s only a good idea if you are both comfortable with it, but even if you have reservations, you may be surprised by just how good they can be at the job. It also takes the pressure of you.

If neither of you really feel able to give the injections, your hospital and / or GP surgery can do them for you. Don’t put yourself under additional pressure. If either of you is really unsure about doing them, don’t force it.

Intra Muscular Injections

You may find that one side is more comfortable than another, but you should try to alternate injection sites.

Injections should be done quickly and unhesitatingly.

Warm the skin first by rubbing or flicking. Rub gently afterward to disperse the drug.

If you are doing them early in the morning, it may help to lay everything out on a tray the night before and leave it in your bedroom.

Use a bit of kitchen roll to cover the tops of glass vials when breaking the tops off, to avoid cutting yourself.

Doing Injections Yourself

Some women feel more comfortable doing their injections themselves and you will feel confident enough after the first time. If however you don’t feel confident then do not proceed and seek assistance from someone who knows what they are doing.

If injecting into the upper buttock area, span you hand around the upper area of your buttock with you thumb on your hip and your hand to the back.

Using a full length mirror (if available) can be helpful for you to see exactly where you are injecting.
