Getting your partner to administer the injections can really make them feel involved and a useful part of the whole process. It’s only a good idea if you are both comfortable with it, but even if you have reservations, you may be surprised by just how good they can be at the job. It also takes the pressure of you.

Scientists have discovered a molecule that plays a key role in the development of sperm.
The Cancer Research UK team were actually investigating the role of JAM-C in the formation of new blood vessels around tumours.

Their work suggests genetic defects interfering with the normal function of the molecule could cause infertility by blocking the maturation of sperm cells. The study is published in the journal Nature.

Sperm cells develop in the testes and undergo a series of changes until they are mature and viable. They begin life as round cells and as they mature they elongate and develop a tail.

Fertility clinics have a shortage of donors. Egg and sperm donors could be paid thousands of pounds in expenses under plans being considered.

The Human Fertilisation and Embryology Authority (HFEA) is consulting on how to recompense donors in a bid to combat the shortage of donors.

When my husband and I decided to start trying for a family a couple years ago we never thought for a moment that there would be any problems with conceiving. However, as the months passed without success, we began to suspect that there could be something wrong. About this time my periods, which had always been a bit of nightmare, became dramatically worse with every passing month. I searched the internet to try and find an explanation for some of the more worrying symptoms. It was during this search that I came across the term Endometriosis.

Our story started three years ago. At the time of my 30th birthday in Nov 2001, I came off the pill to see what would happen. I started taking folic acid and reducing my alcohol intake within reason and just got on with life without thinking much more about it. As the months slipped by, my cycle kicked back into line and every four weeks my period would arrive.

IVF produces healthy babies

A major study of babies born after common fertility techniques has confirmed that they are just has healthy as children conceived naturally.

IVF itself, and ICSI, in which a single sperm is injected into the egg to fertilise it, have now been in use for 25 years and 11 years respectively, and there are substantial numbers of children conceived using both methods.
